The Senior Engineer plays a dual role in designing, implementing, and optimising secure and resilient network infrastructures. This role requires a strategic approach to managing both networking performance and cybersecurity measures.

With a focus on leading a team to ensure robust connectivity and protection of organisational assets, this position is critical in enhancing network architectures, implementing security protocols, and providing expert direction on mitigating risks.

The Senior Networking and Security Engineer is pivotal in maintaining a scalable, high-performance, and secure IT environment aligned with business objectives.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Performance Area: Duties:
Network and Security Infrastructure Design and Architecture ·       Lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable, secure, and resilient network and security infrastructures.

·       Evaluate emerging technologies for potential integration into both networking and security frameworks.

·       Ensure that network and security designs align with organisational objectives and support future scalability and protection.

·       Collaborate with cross-functional teams to incorporate security and networking requirements into system designs.

Network and Security Implementation and Optimisation ·       Oversee the implementation of network and security solutions, ensuring alignment with design specifications and security protocols.

·       Optimise both network performance and security measures, identifying bottlenecks and inefficiencies.

·       Conduct regular assessments to identify opportunities for improvement and enhance network security.

·       Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to deploy and configure network and security equipment, including firewalls and VPNs.

Network Security and Cyber Resilience ·       Implement and maintain robust security measures to protect network data integrity and confidentiality.

·       Conduct security audits, vulnerability assessments, and regular network performance assessments.

·       Lead incident response efforts related to network security breaches and other security incidents.

·       Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to develop and enforce security policies and procedures.

Incident Response, Management, and Analysis ·       Establish and lead incident response procedures for both network and security-related issues.

·       Analyse and report on security incidents, implementing corrective actions and conducting post-incident reviews.

·       Collaborate with legal and law enforcement entities during security incidents, as needed.

Vulnerability Assessment and Management ·       Conduct regular vulnerability assessments of both the network and security infrastructure.

·       Implement automated tools for continuous vulnerability scanning and collaborate with system administrators for timely updates and patches.

·       Provide detailed vulnerability reports and remediation strategies to stakeholders.

Team Leadership and Collaboration ·       Provide leadership and mentorship to the network and security engineering team.

·       Collaborate with IT teams, system administrators, and stakeholders for seamless integration of networking and security solutions.

·       Foster a collaborative and innovative environment within the team.

Network Monitoring, Security Compliance, and Troubleshooting ·       Implement and manage network monitoring tools to ensure continuous visibility and security.

·       Conduct security audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

·       Respond to network-related incidents, troubleshoot issues, and implement both corrective and preventive actions.

Policy Development and Documentation ·       Develop and enforce network and security-related policies, procedures, and standards.

·       Create comprehensive documentation for network configurations, processes, and best practices, ensuring up-to-date compliance.

Capacity Planning, Scalability, and Project Management ·       Conduct capacity planning assessments for both network resources and security measures to meet current and future demands.

·       Lead and manage network and security-related projects from initiation to completion, ensuring objectives and deliverables are met.

·       Communicate project status and outcomes to relevant stakeholders.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in network engineering and cybersecurity, with at least 3 years in a senior role.
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and optimising large-scale network infrastructures and security solutions.
  • Industry-recognised certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience with network monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, and security infrastructure design.
  • Expertise in network security principles, including firewalls, VPNs, encryption protocols, and identity and access management.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking, virtualisation technologies, and advanced security tools such as SIEM and IDS/IPS.
  • Proficiency in security compliance, auditing, and policy development.
  • Strong technical abilities in network troubleshooting and endpoint security solutions.
